However some install slaves allow to wait for those screens (BUTTONWAIT). Often done when the pictures are cool enough to deserve more work. @DamienD whdload slaves optimally work with 4MB of fastmem. Some games work on vanilla A1200, and even A600 when running them using CD32load.

I have set up Amiberry for Amiga emulation -- it uses whdload versions of games and that's sooo much more convenient than floppy disk images!
The docs make it clear that the only accepted file extension is .LHA -- however, most of the games I've obtained are in Zip format instead. The docs seem to be true... LHA games will launch alright, but zipped versions just hang on a black screen and won't launch.
Solution? I'm looking to either convert whdload games from .ZIP into .LHA, or to get Amiberry to accept zips.
